Idaho Ruffed grouse
(208) 253-4694
B.u. phaia

16-18” long. Medium-sized bird, living at all elevations where there are brushy creek drainages.  In winter, they feed mainly on buds of willow and quaking aspen trees.

We feed Mazuri maintenance pellets, fresh-cut dandelions, and cut up cranberries coated with Vionate mineral powder.

They are fairly tame, but generally not as calm as spruce grouse. But they are incredibly popular among aviculturists. They are a great starter grouse to work with.

Production: 8 eggs average per clutch

They can handle fairly hot climates if properly shaded.
