T.p. campestris
16-18” long. They are not only found in open prairie land buy they typically can be found in brushy habitats of the boreal forest. And in the West you will find them in brushy sagebrush mountains.
In captivity we feed them Mazuri maintenance pellets, cut-up dandelions, chopped cranberries coated with Vionate powder.
Production: 12-15 eggs per clutch they may contiue to lay
up to about 30 eggs.
When the sharp tailed grouse male is dancing, it sounds very similarly to a rattlesnake. It is possibly my favorite grouse display of all. The sharp tails can be a spooky bird at times to work with, but overall they are a pleasure to work with.
They will do well in hot climates if properly shaded.
