They are 16''-18' long fairly small bird . Occurs in
northern hardwood-conifer ecotone areas. Resident of upper Michigan,northern Wisconsin
and through out northeastern Minnesota.And have
both a red and a grey phaze.
We feed Mazuri maintenance pellts.along with
fresh -cut dandelions,and cut up cranberries coated with Vionate mineral powder.
They are fairly tame, but generally not as
calm as spruce grouse. But they are incredibly
popular among aviculturists. They are a great stater grouse to work with.
Production: 11 eggs per clutch average 15 is the most we have gotten
They can handle fairly hot climates if properly shaded.
